Earlier this month, we featured one of the Portuguese architect José Marini Bragança’s (JMB) work – Party Hall, this project is actually published in the architect’s recent launched monograph, published by Caleidoscópio. For this book, it is printed in Portuguese and English versions, and is covering JMB‘s past built and competition projects from a small house to the big complexes with images, plans, sections, elevations, detail and etc.

+ About José Marini Bragança

José Marini Bragança was born in 1956 in Luanda/Angola, then a Portuguese African colony. He completes his school studies in Lourenço Marques/Maputo, then a Portuguese east African port city. In 1980 he graduates in Architecture at the Lisbon Higher School of Fine Arts, between 1980 and 1985 he collaborates on several projects: Praça de Portugal Housing Complex (Setubal); Airport Terminal 2 (Lisbon); Higher Agricultural School (Bragança).

He begins his activity in Lisbon as a freelance professional architect in 1981, and in 1985 he moves to Leiria. There, he works in the Town Hall (1985-1993), drawing up, among other projects, the Local Government Plan (Arrabalde da Ponte at the city outskirts), projects for the improvement plan for the Santana Market and twenty nursery schools J. Marini Bragança is awarded an architecture second prize for his monument to the April Revolution (Damaia, near Lisbon), and for a hundred houses project. He participates in the competition for the Biennial building (Soure, near Coimbra). He codesigns the Ministry of Foreign Affairs refectory (Lisbon) and carries out the prior study for a 1,300 hectares Island Territorial Organisation (Mouchão da Póvoa, Lisbon).

J. Marini Bragança receives the 3rd prize in the competition for rehabilitation of the Santana Market, and is invited to the Leiria Town POLIS Programme. He also designs the main premises of Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda concessionary (Cova–das-Faias, near Leiria), the mixed use building (E1/P20 in Arrabalde da Ponte on the right bank of the River Lis) – shortlisted at the National Architecture Use of Brick Competition.

In 2007 J. Marini Bragança wins the entrance to Peralta Beach competition (Lourinhã), and one year later he is honoured a special prize at the Parco Scientifico Tecnologico within the Parma international competition (Italy).
