During the first edition of Downtown Design in Dubai, Melogranoblu presents a lighting installation like a huge shell with two different movements: the first one – in white, teal and purple – is fast and dynamic; the second in white, red, blue, with different intensities of white not to make perceptible changes. There are also three different 'placed lights', that immortalize like a snapshot, in white, amber, purple.

Melogranoblu is in Temporary Museum for New Design exhibition, the cornerstone event of Milan's Design Week, which has chosen Dubai as a location to exhibit for the first time outside Milan.

Temporary Museum for New Design explores the new confines of global design, paying great attention to research and quality, to new talents, to technological progress and crossovers with art. In its galleries international brands, great architects and young designers present their new creations with exciting and interactive installations that always have a powerful impact, as in a contemporary museum. In a black and white installation with touches of colour, the Selected Objects are chosen among those taking part in the latest editions of the Temporary Museum in Milan.

The international school in Ikast-Brande (ISIB) has inaugurated a new 2,600 m2 building, which includes a school, after-school and kindergarten. C.F. Møller has designed the complex like a small town with individual volumes located around a square and winding streets.

The international school, which only teaches in English, is so popular that it has now been expanded with new facilities. 130 students are ready for the new school year at the International School, which with the new building can accommodate up to 200 students.

Inside the two-storey building of light brickwork, there are omnipresent views to the green landscape and a pleasant natural light influx, creating a bright and friendly environment for the children and staff. The window openings are placed in a pixelated and lively pat-tern that allows natural light deep into the rooms – and opens the views for big and small alike.

Centrally located in the school complex is a long superstructure with a curved form. The superstructure contains ventilation systems and skylights, and is clad in translucent fa-cade panels and double-glazed windows, respectively. The curved form is continued in the sinuous balconies framing the central "square", which acts as a multi-purpose space for drama, music, dining and lectures as well as the main social space of the school.

The new school is located as an addition to an existing educational complex. The sur-rounding park-like landscape is partially designed as shady woodlands, with embedded playgrounds and playing fields, and a smaller screened area for the kindergarten.

Naarden House \ Serge Schoemaker Architects

Serge Schoemaker Architects was commissioned to renovate and modernize a semi-detached house from the thirties in Naarden, the Netherlands. The architectural office significantly improved the internal spatial quality of the traditional house without physically altering its protected external appearance.

The overall strategy focused on creating a greater sense of space and light throughout the house. Starting with the ground floor, the practice radically transformed the existing layout which comprised a series of divided, cramped rooms. A new circular routing – clustered around the stairwell – was designed to enable a flow of spaces. The elongated living room, hall and small kitchen were combined into a new spacious living and dining area while a new library occupies part of the former garage.

The new layout enables internal views in all direction. An eight metre-long unit stretching from the living room into the kitchen and library acts as a functional spine by integrating the fireplace, storage and kitchen appliances. In the kitchen, a thin cantilevering in-situ concrete bar with integrated sink becomes the hub of the home. To enable flexible use of the kitchen, a complementary custom-designed oak dining table can be placed beside or underneath the bar.

In the new library, the full height of the garage was maximised to create a voluminous feel, while the verticality of the floor-to-ceiling custom book shelves contrast the horizontal lines of the rest of the interior. The formerly disused attic gained a new function as a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Serge Schoemaker Architects transformed the space by enlarging the windows, removing the internal walls and exposing the full height of the roof structure to create more space and light.
