Vanke Art Center XuHui District \ Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China Posted: 01 Sep 2013 12:59 AM PDT Designed by Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China, the project is located in Xuhui District, Shanghai South Railway Station North, at the junction of 3 major traffic and subway axes and also in the immediate vicinity of a gas station. This led to some special constraints regarding the landscape treatment, circulations and access points. The soft lines of the building are the response to the tension created by this major infrastructure axes enclosing the site and shows the way public architecture can develop within this limits. A new cohesive public space is gained by creating a diverse activities platform, the usage of new technologies and interactive facades, extending the green areas as much as possible and innovative landscape design. Both north and west of the site there are large residential areas and to the south there is a business and mixed use developing area. The design purpose is to create a local landmark with a feeling of high tech and at the same time a center for diverse public activities and happenings. The site should be the green lung of the area, surrounded by high elevated roads and high rise buildings. Looking down from the air, the architecture is totally hidden in the park, becoming one with the land. The contrast will be provided by the pavement and landscape elements. + About the projectDesigned by Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China Status: unbuilt + All images and drawings courtesy Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China |
New XIUYI Kindergarten Proposal \ Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China Posted: 01 Sep 2013 12:38 AM PDT Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China has designed the New XIUYI Kindergarten Proposal, the design attempts to challenge traditional kindergarten spatial organization, exploring the classrooms as playful boxes which connected by covered walkway. Village The design is strongly connected to the layout of the traditional village, spreading 30 classrooms into nine buildings and forming a relatively independent settlement type of a space. The organic arrangement creates both interesting private play areas and diversified public spaces, at a scale appropriate for children. Garden / Veranda The living units are connected to the communal space through zigzag elevated walkways shaped like “verandas” clearly inspired from the classical garden of Suzhou, the Master of Nets Garden. The layout should read as a pathway floating in the air spreading out in a forest, providing delicate spatial and visual experience at every corner. Skin / Embroidery “Xiu” (embroidery) appears in the name of this project due to its importance in the local traditional embroidery process of Suzhou. The building`s skin is decorated according to simple embroidery patterns. Colorful vertical sunshades resemble fine and dense pinpoints which weave a piece of beautiful cloth wrapping the whole building. Simple but colorful appearances form the different character of each unit, are perceived by children as “candy village”. + About the projectDesigned by Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China Status: Unbuilt + All images and drawings courtesy Studio 7 of Urban Architecture China |
“Tianjin International Airport” Competition Entry \ Moatasem Esmat – Islam Ghoneim – Dina Alarousy Posted: 31 Aug 2013 11:05 PM PDT “Three Harmonies” refers to:
Rising from the concept of the three harmonies is the need for a design that addresses both the controversial culture of Tianjin, and the need to unite people under one roof. we understand that Architecture is branched to several theories and concepts, however architecture is eventually People. the VI-th Shell is design that is made to mark the city of Tianjin, and give it a new identity; the identity of unity. for us as a team, our main vision was to seek a design that is memorable. a scene that holds still in our memories and in the memories of the users. We needed to use the wide area provided not to narrow the project limits but making always extendable. being fully aware of the airport need to be isolated, we decided to contradict this principle and make a design that forms a social hub for the people of Tianjin and the travelers as well. making it both a transportation functioned building and a cultural center as well. + Project factsProject VI-th Shell : Entry for Competition “Tianjin International Airport”, competition was organized by AWR (Architecture Workshop in Rome) .
