Cancan coat hanger for WEWOOD / GUD Conspiracy Posted: 24 Jan 2013 07:10 AM PST The curves of the coat hanger aim to convey the movements of the 'cancan' dance. The four identical pieces are tied up together with a single leather cord, which creates a visual pattern reminiscent of the corsets used by the dancers. Traditionally 'cancan' dancers must be 1,70m in height, which is the same height of the coat hanger. + Designer: GUD Conspiracy |
The Massey Tower Sales Centre \ Cecconi Simone Posted: 24 Jan 2013 06:34 AM PST The Massey Tower by MOD Developments is a 60-storey, luxury condominium planned for Downtown Toronto. It takes its name and design inspiration from Massey Hall, completed in 1894 and cherished today as Toronto’s premier live-music venue. The project's 5295 s.f. sales centre by Cecconi Simone is housed within the adjacent Canadian Bank of Commerce building of 1905, a designated landmark to be restored and integrated into the base of the future high-rise. The sales centre harmonizes period and contemporary design, preserving original, interior elements in situ while extending them with new ones. This sensitive intervention maintains the building's historical integrity while adapting it to its present-day as a show space. The refurbished entry area of the former bank, with original mouldings and mosaics, gives a striking preview of the overall interior environment of the upcoming residence. Cocoon-like pendant lights and a custom reception desk in antique mirror and cold-rolled steel are contemporary yet evocative of traditional design. The expansive main gallery, accessed through velvet swag drapes, is organized into functional zones without partitions. Instead, closing areas, seating areas and scale model are delineated with period-inspired custom furnishings and mouldings; digitally-generated, trompe-l'oeil, custom wall-coverings; and an elaborate mosaic in-the-round, uncovered during the sales centre's construction. The model suite features a thoroughly-modern living environment fused with traditional motifs. Contemporary, custom millwork is subtly ornamented with applied decoration. Custom furniture, antique-looking in silhouette, is simplified for an up-to-date, graphic appearance. Seemingly incongruent design details are unified in a subdued palette, accented with boldly-theatrical flourishes. + Project factsThe Massey Tower Sales Centre by Cecconi Simone Interior Design: Cecconi Simone Inc. + All images courtesy Cecconi Simone | Photo by Ben Rahn / A-Frame Studio |
