Arcoa canot 32 \ Blossom Creative Posted: 03 Dec 2011 12:03 AM PST "Sur Mesure" is a fast food restaurant that customers can make their sandwiches, salad or pasta with ingredients and sauce of their own choice, among a large selection… Let us now look at the works that have been carried out inside the restaurant. The previous owners had used the premises as a temporary employment agency. In order to render the premises suitable for the restauration business (in relation to food storage, the kitchen, or accessibility), almost everything had to be demolished and redesigned. The new client imagined opening a much higher quality outlet than the traditional fast food chains. The Regulars are from the surrounding shops, but also professionals (such as lawyers or accountants) working in the many offices. The challenge was to open a trendy, fashionable restaurant, inspired by the lounge bar concept and offering an oasis of tranquillity in busy day-times schedules. Upon entering the restaurant, the main counter is in front of you. You are greeted by the team who will also prepare your salads and sandwiches. Just next to the counter there is a refrigerated area where clients can select starters, desserts and drinks before choosing their main menu. Several tables have been installed, allowing small or larger groups of friends to meet and mingle. On the first floor, there is a very cozy space where people can relax in leather seats and be warmed by the authentic gas fire. There is a panoramic view from the mezzanine on the busy restaurant and its activity below. Finally, the modern Kitchen is hidden away from sight on the first floor. All dishes are freshly prepared there, either on a daily basis, or in immediate response to the client's orders. The sophisticated kitchen is in its rightful place and does not infringe upon the dining space. + All images courtesy Blossom Creative+ More restaurant projects on +MOOD |
Cantilevered Glass Helical Staircase Posted: 02 Dec 2011 09:49 PM PST The house is privately owned prestigious residential development overlooking Gleneagles’ famous Queen’s Golf Course, sold by the world-famous five-star hotel and golf resort in Perthshire. The site, overlooking the third fairway of the Queen's Course, is one of 13 in an exclusive gated development called Queen's Crescent. At 21,000sq ft, it will be about five times the size of a typical luxury five-bedroom detached home. This incredible private home was built around an aquarium which is 4 meters in diameter and raises three stories through the centre of the property. The stair is fabricated from a single steel helical stringer with cantilevering glass treads and glass balustrade to stairs and landing. + SpecificationSteelwork

Posted: 02 Dec 2011 07:17 PM PST In this edition of Construmat 2011, the Glass Foundation of Barcelona stresses new potentials and future challenges of glass, researching and trialing new possibilities, both for its integration into the architectural field as for the development of new ways in order to move towards a more sustainable architecture. Structures of glass: traditionally, glass has been linked to fragility, but new techniques as well as higher levels of control production, plus the possibility to create stable and resistant forms through blowing, tubing, fusing etc, has opened up new pathways to new solutions such as structural glass, or the possibility of integrate in one element many functions, functions that previously had been resolved with an increasing number of elements and, consequently, of costs. From this point of view, the stand wants to reflect and to suggest this process, subverting the formulation of two traditionally opposing concepts, the visual and physical lightness. Weighting 30 kg., the stand allows to form a 54 m2 continous ceiling, recycling stocks of glass tubs used at the chemical industry. All supported by six helium balloons (diameter: 3m). The installation can be easily transported. + Designer: MAIO |
