“Gola” Table \ Gianluca Sgalippa Posted: 21 Nov 2011 07:48 AM PST The launch of the collection of furniture under the brand name Enzyma (www.enzyma.it) includes, from the outset, a number of models belonging to various types: cabinets, tables, sideboards, carpets and libraries. However, the “Gola” table, designed by Gianluca Sgalippa, is chosen as the most representative model of that new design world. “Gola” is formed by two asymmetrical wings made of bent wood. The surface of the “opening” starts from a solid color (in this case, it's purple), but the color fades to white-plaster while bending out on the horizontal plane. The central support and the presence of a single leg create a visual effect of lightness and suspension in the vacuum, despite the large size of the table and the rigor of its geometry. The sophisticated dégradé color effect is achieved by digital printing on laminate. “Gola” has an elegant and dynamic image that animates the object even when not in use. It plays a creative way to “dining” and to characterize the domestic landscape. In line with the general philosophy of Enzyma, “Gola” fully expresses the contemporary size without sacrificing the timeless style and without accommodating the sudden changes of fashion. The catalog by Enzyma also offer the console version. The “Gola” table (and the coordinate console) can only be purchased through the website www.enzyma.it, where you can also see the other products available today in the collection. + Data sheetDesigner: Gianluca Sgalippa |
ORL Clinic \ Mal-Vi Architects Posted: 21 Nov 2011 07:10 AM PST Given the fact that the client was a newly arrived surgeon in Thessaloniki (Greece), we were handed the task of creating a memorable office space, providing an experience as distant as possible from the usual image one associates with a visit to a doctor’s studio. In order to separate the medic’s office and exam room from the reception space and waiting room, a flexible partition was designed. The partition incorporates the reception desk, as well as the exam room entrance, while its bulging shape—deriving from the form of an acoustic wave, is a reference to the practitioner’s field of specialty. The wooden sculptural surfaces were created using medium-density fiberboards (MDF) left purposefully untreated so as to reinforce the value of the simplicity of the materials used in contrast with their complicated form. The main waiting room’s walls are covered with the Hippocratic oath, with some of its most important words standing out in laser-cut acrylic glass. + Project factsLocation: Kalamaria, Thessaloniki (Greece) + All images and drawing courtesy Mal-Vi Architects | Photo by Giorgio Papadopoulos |
Wandering in Knowledge Installation \ Manuel Dreesmann Posted: 21 Nov 2011 06:36 AM PST The installation “Wandern im Wissen” (Wandering in Knowledge) represents current inquiries and transports the information of different scientific fields visually to the stairway between the four floors of the The State- and University library Bremen.
The State- and Universitylibrary Bremen (SuUB) invited the University of the Arts Bremen to contribute to the 350th year anniversary with a design project. Since 350 years, The State- and Universitylibrary Bremen organises and structures information and makes it accessible for the visitors. Searching and retrieving information are the main requests of the library’s visitors. An almost endless flow of information inquiries are obtained and fulfilled on daily basis. In this respect, the students of the University of the Arts Bremen granted an aesthetic and poetic expression to this invisible procedure. In the center of the 15 meters high stairway of the library, a sculpture of folded paper demonstrates the connection between the traditional storage medium and the digital information world. The permanent flow of information inquiries at the SuUB runs through on a vertical axis between four floors of the building. The random results of the inquiries release corresponding visuals of text and pictures which cause curiosity for the various activites in the library. The media sculpture highlights the abundance of the mental processes, which take place simultaneously in the library. The retrieval inquiries result in new collages of visuals of text and pictures, which form an aesthetic translation of the search procedure. The searched words, then, fill the pool of data at the ground of the stairway. Altogether the media installation poses questions about the function of the information in the age of the increasing communicational isolation. In regard to the title, the visitor literally passes through the world of knowledge. + All images courtesy Manuel Dreesmann |
