Alianoid Humidifier \ Minwoo Lee Posted: 21 Oct 2011 08:16 AM PDT South Korean designer Minwoo Lee has designed the Alianoid Humidifier. Alianoid is a humidifier which was motivated from the mysterious look of an outer space robot. As if the robot is in rage, moisture comes from injection holes at the both side of the head. Clockworking circle at the control panel indicates the amount of water left inside the tank and bigger circle controls the amount of injection. This is a humidifier with its own unique look to be different from the usual humidifiers that generally has mechanical appearances. + Designer: Minwoo Lee | http://www.minwoolee.net/ |
Espasso Sergio Rodrigues new shop Posted: 21 Oct 2011 07:53 AM PDT The first permanent Sergio Rodrigues shop-in-shop, featuring a full range of furniture by the iconic Brazilian designer, including an extensive selection of re-editions available for the first time in the US. ESPASSO is pleased to announce ESPASSO SERGIO RODRIGUES – the first permanent Sergio Rodrigues shop-in-shop, featuring a full range of furniture by the iconic Brazilian designer, including an extensive selection of exclusive re-editions available for the first time in the US. Located inside ESPASSO’s Tribeca gallery, the collection will feature many of Sergio’s most well known pieces, including the Mole armchair, made of wood and upholstered leather cushions supported by leather straps, reflecting his playfulness and wit; the Diz chair, marked by organic undulating lines and a sculptural aesthetic; and the graceful Kilin chair, constructed of a single piece of leather on a wood frame. The range will include sofas, chairs, lighting, stools, and sideboards.
Sergio Rodrigues was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1927. In 1955, Rodrigues established the company Oca, which he referred to as ‘a laboratory for Brazilian furniture and handcrafts’. Amongst his most well known works are furniture designed for the Brazilian Embassy in Rome, for UNB (Brasília University) and the Teatro Nacional (the National Theater in Brasília), as well as his collaborations with Oscar Niemeyer, as the latter’s interior designer of choice for his buildings in Brasilia. He is widely credited for establishing a new paradigm in design, and creating what has become a recognizable Brazilian furniture identity through the creation of iconic pieces of furniture using robust woods like jacaranda, peroba and imbue. The opening preview on the evening of October 18th for ESPASSO SERGIO RODRIGUES is a TERSSAS event – a series of exhibitions presented by ESPASSO representing the best of Brazilian design and culture. Curated by Carlos Junqueira and Béco Dranoff – both innovators in their respective fields – this Tuesday night series features a mix of emerging and established artists from a variety of interconnected worlds, including architecture, design, photography, fashion, film and music, all of whom reflect the vibrant culture of modern-day Brazil. + About ESPASSOESPASSO is the premier design gallery in the US for modern and contemporary Brazilian furniture, art and design objects.
