A building that needs to dialogue with the city. An organic block, which gently lands on a square … A kind of constant sensory challenge that appeals to the discovery, experimentation, to a new way of experiencing this amazing city! A space where the physical boundaries of the site are diluted in the geometry of the shape and permeability zones created by the balance sheet, reinforcing the desired ?uidity of the surrounding urban space. The building looks like a massive form, modeled on the basis of foreign relations to enhance, easily seized at car speed and able to stimulate the curiosity of passersby, in a constant game of seduction between “show” and “hide”. The interior is thought of as a kind of continuous functional spiral around a huge central void, exploring an idea of transparency, diluted in a lacy structure (suggesting the branches of trees in a dense forest), making the perception of different spaces possible and be a constant invitation to the movement and the discovery of spaces that are visible. + Project credits / data 09FDIP PUBLIC BUILDING + About SpaceworkersThe spaceworkers® project arises from a common desire of the three mentors, Carla Duarte, Henrique Marques and Rui Dinis, to create a “brand” capable of representing a horizontal approach across fields as diverse as Architecture, Economics, Design and Furniture, proving to be possible and even recommendable to ally these different areas. As a creative workshop, we seek to instill in our work a touch of innovation and sensory excitement, appealing to the sensibilities of its customers to a new way of viewing space as an instrument of communication, planning and interaction with public sentiment. We believe that the proposals made by spaceworkers ® seek to meet the needs of its clients, avoiding the obvious, seeking a path where form clearly follows emotion. It also seeks a compromise between the formal and functional options and the overall cost of the work, because we believe it is precisely this balance that grounds the added value of our work. + All images and drawings courtesy Spaceworkers |
Eagle Nest Hut – wind power | Piero Ceratti Posted: 02 Aug 2011 11:14 AM PDT Piero Ceratti developed a concept design for a mountain hut/shelter powered by wind turbines. This alpine hut can be installed in very extreme site, it minimize the point of contact with the rocky ground. the main structure consists of 4 wooden arcs anchored to the rock with 8 steel base plates, secondary structure is realized with 4 couple of l wooden beam fixed to the 4 arcs. The interior shell is assembled with preformed wooden insulated panels of 20 cm thickness, all the exterior surfaces are covered with red metal seam standing. Energy is provided with 80 micro wind turbines that charge 18 lithium battery pack located over the changing room, water is supplied by 2 water tank filled by a nearby water source. Eagle nest hut it's equipped with: 10 bunk beds, 1 wc, 10 backpack storage, 1 changing room, 1 shower, 1 kitchen with 10 seat place. Alpine hut provides energy with micro wind turbines, through the rotation of 80 micro turbines the generators send electrical energy to the 18 lithium battery packs, where energy is stored for future use. All the fixture within the hut are electrical energy saving, such us led lights. The hut shell has a high insulation level, thanks to 20 cm thick insulation panel, to win the extreme weather conditions. A very simple aeration system, controlled with mechanical flaps, completes the system. the passage between interior and exterior is regulated by the filter created by the two entry doors, in order to save interior climate comfort. |
El Bruc Residencial | David Oliva + Elisenda Planas Posted: 02 Aug 2011 02:56 AM PDT
El Bruc Residential, is located just outside the old town centre of El Bruc. It is a new public building for single-family housing development, with a social and cultural use, which consists in a multiuse room for the neighbors, a little bar and a toilet. The architect was asked to design a neighborhood meeting point, a place for popular parties and celebrations, and other activities such as conferences and courses. It is planned for a capacity of 20-30 people simultaneously and located next to a public playground and a small sports court for the community. The program areas are distributed in just one floor. A covered entrance porch, communicates directly with the multipurpose room. At the opposite end of the entrance, there are other complementary services (small bar, toilet, storage and cleaning room). The hardness of the concrete contrasts with the pines' apparent fragility. It is a very honest and plain building, a wysiwyg building. Due to the small size of the building, it provides an image of unity and compactness of the material. The facade is the structure, the structure defines the material and the security grille provides an integral texture to the fa?ade. The geometry clearly defines people and light entrance volumes. The result is an integral, durable and engaging building. It has given most importance to energy efficiency, such as thermal and acoustic insulation, water saving systems and rainwater recovery for garden irrigation. + Project credits / dataMultiuse building and Meeting Point – El Bruc Residencial Architects: David Oliva + Elisenda Planas | http://www.sp25.es/ + All images and drawings courtesy David Oliva + Elisenda Planas |
