Posted: 21 Jul 2011 08:58 AM PDT Bora CAKILKAYA has recently created the Face Light. + Design statement by Bora CAKILKAYABora (Storm) Cakilkaya, who likes to drink cold beer during brainstorming, who amuses himself while drinking beer, who makes Amusing designs while amusing himself, is happy that I share with you the face light. We said "we are looking for a little smile in design" and we transformed it into illumination. We desired that the amusing chairs, which were used to known as the face chair, would have illumination too. We tried to make the face lights entirely emotional designs, and also to have them illuminate the locality where they exist, what else could be desired. We had great fun when designing; you will feel this as well when you see it. + Designer: Bora CAKILKAYA | http://www.p-arch.com/ + All images courtesy Bora CAKILKAYA |

ESPA Ritz – Carlton ICC | Hirsch Bedner Associates Posted: 20 Jul 2011 07:01 PM PDT HBA / Hirsch Bedner designed the spa on the 116th and 118th floors creating an urban escape in the skies and making ESPA the focal point of the city's skyline and the jewel atop Hong Kong's crown of lights. Those who indulge in the 10,000 square foot ESPA have the unique opportunity to view Hong Kong from above including exquisite views of Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong Island and the New Territories. The Ritz-Carlton spa by ESPA is more that 1,000 feet above the frenetic streets of Hong Kong. Guests simultaneously feel attached to the city with the breathtaking views, but yet totally insulated from the hustle and bustle below. To allow guests to feel "cocooned among the clouds", HBA planned spaces without any sharp corners. All edges are rounded and the walls themselves are curved as in a protective embrace.
+ THE EXPERIENCEFeaturing 860 sq m/9,257 sq ft, The Ritz-Carlton Spa by ESPA redefines the Hong Kong spa experience. With nine deluxe treatment rooms and two couples' suites, plus floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views and soothing therapies, this exceptional spa in Hong Kong is the perfect place to leave the world behind. ESPA has exclusively created a collection of powerful and highly effective signature treatments for The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong that combine Western and Asian influences, incorporating traditional techniques and indigenous ingredients to help balance and renew mind, body, and soul and give luminosity and radiance to the skin. + THE DESIGNReception Upon entering ESPA, the guest moves into softened shapes and natural textures. Overhead a floating cocoon shaped porcelain art installation developed with artist Eva Menz is suspended from the ceiling – creating a balance and bringing nature into the space. The walls are upholstered in horsehair, and the perimeter of the floor is warm timber infused with bronze metal, contrasting with the central reception area’s ivory stone floor. The seating and lighting elements are gracefully curved and low tables in naturally contoured shapes reinforce the feeling of being safely cocooned. Treatment Areas The treatment rooms offer floor to ceiling window walls looking out over the cityscape. Screens of curved ivory metal strips that stream like ribbons against the glass create a shadow play of light beams across the rounded cocoon like room. All amenities are concealed behind sliding doors. A glass pendant, like a drop of amber rain dripping from a mulberry leaf, glistens in smooth contrast with the textured paneling. Bronze metal accents lend a surprisingly harmonious sparkle and glamour to the clean simplicity of the surroundings. In the VIP suites, guests occupy their own luxury cocoon, anchored by a bronze feature wall, a beautiful feature bath with views over Hong Kong, and a relaxing living area with contrasting textures and materials in rich bronze tones. Two treatment bed areas can either be used together or divided into two private spaces. In the spa relaxation room, custom-designed lounger pods are individually curtained to create private spaces. This is truly a space in which guests can slowly relax prior to or post treatment. The textured sheer curtains give privacy but still allow light and space to enter. + For more information, please visit http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/HongKong/Spa/Menu.htm + All images courtesy HBA+ Spa on +MOOD |
