Concept for BUNGALOVE | Studio 63 Architecture + Design Posted: 24 Dec 2010 06:44 AM PST Bungalove, a project designed by Studio 63 Architecture + Design with collaboration with ED Contract. New needs, new ideas or the rediscovery of old habits, bring us to radically rethink the concept of hospitality. An evolution of the concept, which is no longer tied to an aesthetic value of the space where everything has been done, but to the environment where the space is immersed. The future of hospitality, is to have the opportunity to enjoy wild places that are not accessible to “classic” tourist accommodation. A nomadic room that wanders without leaving any marks; “green” because it respects the host environment. A temporary space for a temporary stay. It is the idea of a return to nature, which refers to certain ‘radical’ attitudes that in the late ’60s led to the creation of fantastic living cells, perfectly efficient, which could be directly inserted into the desired location. A housing unit that favors the contact with nature and with the site, but with all the amenities and comforts that the modern traveler requires. Consisting of a platform and a wall decorated where the aggregation can give life to a single room as well as the apartment, bungalows and a living space designed especially expanded and evolved and transformed. A system for all’hotellerie fully customizable, with a flexibility of composition that allows the application from a simple village to a luxury resort. Posted: 21 Dec 2010 10:00 PM PST Mexican architectural firm AS/D designed the PSJ building located at the commercial strip of Tlalnepantla, Estado de Mexico. + Project description by AS/DThe Building has been designed to allocate both retail and office space in a 900 square meter site located at the commercial strip of Tlalnepantla, Estado de Mexico. The building has two fundamental components: The ground floor a transparent volume that allows a unique interaction with the interior and it's context, the upper level a volume with a more solid and reflective appearance allocates the offices. The façade presents a series of vertical openings that are intended to bring natural light into the offices. The program requirements are organized in 3 levels: An underground parking that introduces lighting as well as ventilation due to its elevated platform; graphics are introduced as part of the design of the building. The main entrance acts as a connecting component between the main areas, creating a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior. The ground floor allocates the retail space around a double height atrium. The retail spaces range from 45 sq. meters to 75 sq. meters; its layout allows different possibilities of configuration as well as both interior and exterior frontage for maximum exposure. The upper level contains space for 8 independent offices which range from 45 sq. meters to 135 sq. meters, each one having privacy as well as independent access through a corridor and bridge that projects towards the central atrium. The double height space is used to introduce light onto the inner facades. The volumetric composition that projects and appears to be floating gives the building a strong yet subtle image within its surroundings. + Project credits / dataArchitectural design: AS/D | http://www.asd-architecture.com/ + All images and drawings courtesy AS/D |
Center of Arts and Education of Pimentas | Biselli + Katchborian architects Posted: 21 Dec 2010 09:28 PM PST Brazil-based architectural studio Biselli + Katchborian architects completed the Center of Arts and Education of Pimentas in São Paulo, Brazil. + Architect’s statement by Biselli + Katchborian architectsThe Center of Arts and Education of Pimentas is located in Guarulhos, in Pimentas neighborhood, a place with few community equipment directed to education, leisure and sports. The project is configured in a line, materialized in a large metallic roof that houses in its longitudinal borders different uses, articulated by a void which culminates in a central area dedicated to the use of sports. The aquatic complex is located outside this axis, in the external area. The plain topography and the linear configuration site were determinant for the architectural parti. The various uses are distributed in blocks, in cast-in-place concrete and pre-cast concrete. Library, classrooms and cafeteria are located in the west side of the axis. On the opposite side, are located the volumes of classrooms, artistic gymnastics, dance and auditoriums. The central void is a square. Without a program previously defined, it articulates the programs around it, through suggested pathways and bridges on the first floor, and allows various uses along its seats and free spaces. The colors chosen for the inner facades (which variate from yellow to green) contribute to the diversity and ludic atmosphere of this inner square. + Project credits / dataProject: Center of Arts and Education of Pimentas Architect: Biselli + Katchborian architects | http://www.bkweb.com.br Designers: Project team: + All images and drawings courtesy Biselli + Katchborian architects | Photo by Nelson Kon |
sottovoce – four moods of light | Huub Ubbens Posted: 20 Dec 2010 08:13 AM PST LED Light Exhibition Design 2010, Milan Huub Ubbens, Dutch designer based in Milan and Montpellier, has conceived the poetic installation sottovoce inside the Public Gardens Indro Montanelli during the LED Light Exhibition Design 2010 in Milan. In front of the seventeenthcentury Palazzo Dugnani, surrounded by the silent and evocative green of the park and framed by Antonio Rosmini's statue and a fountain, the project approaches light in a conceptual way expressing its beauty, its role in everyday life and its importance as an inspiration for visual and literary arts through some magic, suggestive and analytical essays written by five illustrious authors, whose words can be listened to while hiding in the dark from the feverish life of the city. sottovoce is realized with four big, matt-black cones that offer protection to one person. Every cone spreads a loop of a 20 minutes text, recited by Italian actors. The five authors represented in sottovoce propose a reflection – anthropological, poetical, metaphysical and historical – on the culture of light in men's life: its variety and beauty, the importance of the dark, the symbolism of light and its relationship with the human being. The five essays – “In Praise of Shadows” by Junichiro Tanazaki, “De Umbris Idearum” by Giordano Bruno, “Light” by Ettore Sottsass and an interaction of two voices reading fragments from “Light in its artistic manifestations” by Hans Sedlmayr and “Light of Things” by Antonella Anedda – approach the thread in different ways, concentrating on the dark that generates light or starting with reflections on light to end with the dark. The intimate darkness inside the cones where the texts are diffused emphasizes the meaning of the words and creates the ideal atmosphere to concentrate on the authors’ monologues and let imagination run free. About sottovoce, conceived for the LED Light Exhibition Design 2010 in Milan, Huub Ubbens says:
